Manuel Zarate, the Principal Architect and founder of MZ Architecture, earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Florida Atlantic University. From a young age, he was captivated by the dynamic and ever-changing skyline of New York City, which inspired his lifelong passion for architecture. After graduating from FAU, Manuel moved to New York, where he developed a successful career as a project architect, contributing to a variety of projects across the city. His experiences in NYC shaped his approach to design, blending creativity with technical expertise.


As Principal Architect, Manuel is responsible for overseeing the design vision for each project, managing client relationships, and leading the project team. He works closely with developers, contractors, and consultants to ensure each project meets both aesthetic and functional goals. Currently, he is particularly excited about the recent changes in the NYC zoning regulations, which will allow the construction of bigger and better buildings. These changes not only stand to benefit developers financially but also provide an opportunity for the city to meet its housing needs and enhance its neighborhoods.


Manuel is deeply passionate about creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also sensitive to their environment. He loves problem-solving, and his expertise in zoning stems from this passion. He sees zoning restrictions not as limitations, but as an invitation to creatively maximize the potential of a fully compliant envelope. His extensive experience spans a wide range of project types, including interior renovations, alterations to existing buildings, new construction, single-family homes, multi-family housing, commercial properties, and educational buildings.
One of Manuel’s proudest achievements is seeing his designs come to life in the vibrant city that first inspired him. He is committed to continuing his work in a way that contributes to the evolving architectural landscape of New York City.


Outside of work, Manuel enjoys swimming and traveling the world. His travels allow him to explore other cities, discover new foods, and immerse himself in different cultures, all of which inspire and influence his design work.


Manuel is a registered architect in the state of New York and holds NCARB certification, enabling him to be licensed in other states as well.
